Women of Wai`anae’s 'Hearts, Champagne, and Tea' Fundraiser A Huge Success
The Women of Wai`anae (WOW) fundraiser lunch and tea on 2/13/11was a huge success, raising $1,590 for WOW scholarships! Organizers of the event were Angela Ascrider and Rosalie Smith, and other volunteers included Pat Patterson, Sandy Ducharme, Mary Ellen Apostol, Chico Rivera, Angela Hoppe-Cruz, Maile Shimabukuro, Summer Miles, Nanette Geramonte, Lika Jordan, Georgia Campbell, Donna Costa, and Karen Young. Many others volunteered or otherwise supported the event by donating food, silent auction items, money, and providing other support.
Kahumana Cafe generously donated the use of their venue, and musician Rocky Holmes donated a performance. Rocky’s soulfull, jazzy tunes on saxophone and flute were thoroughly enjoyed.
Previous WOW scholarship winners Errol Kia`i Lee and Moana Gaspar spoke to the crowd. Kia`i talked about his plans to become a social worker, and Moana shared that she obtained a Masters in Counseling Psychology.
Don and Delora Hutton were in attendance, and Don did a wonderful job videotaping the event.
The silent auction featured beautiful donations from WOW members and supporters, and raised an impressive $416.
The event ended by recognizing the winner of the “funniest hat” contest, Dorothy Walters. Dorothy’s hat was a whimsical topper made of swirls of paper that she made herself.
Photos and video of the event can be found on WOW’s website, http://wowaianae.blogspot.com/.
